We did some quick research on options for getting into downtown Wellington. We had asked at the front desk when we were checking in to the RV park about parking for motor homes in the city and were told it was basically non-existent. Another option was to use the city bus system. After some research and consulting with the front desk again, we decided to take the bus into the city. The bus stop was only ¼ mile up the road and we picked up the #83 bus into town ($6.00NZD Each). We rode the bus all the way to the end of the line at Courtney Place. We wandered around the downtown area investigating the shops and restaurants. You can walk from one end of downtown to the other in 15 minutes. We picked out an Irish Pub for lunch (Burger and a beer for $30NZD). Then we wandered over to Cuba Street Pedestrian Mall and then down to the water front. Wellington roots date back to the early 1800s and many of the older buildings were built in that time frame. In the early 1970s then started a complete renovation of the water front from worn-down commercial shipping warehouses to a beautiful walkable water front. Then it was the #83 bus back to Lower Hutt where the RV park was located. We decided to take advantage of the time to run a couple loads of laundry using the park laundry facilities. This is the first time we have ever used an RV park laundry acility as we have our own washer and dryer in the Wanderer. It cost $4NZD for the washer and another $4NZD for the dryer per load. Interestingly, the washer provides the laundry soap instead of using your own.
