26 February 2023 Wrapping up our time in Conroe

This is our last weekend in Conroe. We are getting everything put back where it belongs and stored so it won’t break. Leslie made a grand going away dinner for all of us. She made Cornish hens with a mustard sauce, risotto malaise, salad and rum cake. We cooked the hens once we got to Cynthia’s. Olivia decorated the rum cake with candy eye balls (at least the ones she did not eat.) and helped make the salad. Lauren arrived later to join us before she took the girls home. We all relaxed and had a fun time. We will miss everyone when we pull out, but have many fun adventures ahead of us. We have our itinerary planned out through the first week of October with reservations all laid into place, including some guided tours. Its going to be a busy year of travel.

8-12 February 2023 Visiting Veronica

We used our tickets from our canceled trip in December to fly up to Canton to visit Veronica. We took her out every day from the retirement home to go visiting and eat at some of her favorite restaurants. We got to see Cheryl for dinner one night. Dragged cousin Amy out with us several nights and visited with her in her home to see the latest construction projects. We all drove down to visit Aunt Joyce and have lunch in the Bergholz CafĂ© before driving up to Katy’s for a visit. Our final day, we took Veronica out for brunch to Jenny’s before heading for the airport for the flight home. We were fortunate to have no problems in our travels and the weather cooperated wonderfully. So we blew into town, dragged everyone out to visit and left everyone exhausted. We think it was a great trip!

29 January 2023 Stair Lights

David finally completed changing over the stair lights from a stand alone solar system to running off the house batteries. It required some detective work to figure out where the wiring was for the stair light we did not have installed during the build and splicing into it so we could control the lights from the panel by the door. Then he had to replace the LED strips he had from the old system since they were not rated for 12 Volts. The new lights work great and will alleviate concerns of failing solar power systems, parking in the shadows where it won’t charge, etc.

25/28 January 2023 New York Deli

We were finally able to meet up with Barbara and Art for dinner here in Houston. Leslie found a DDD restaurant near to where they lived. The traffic down from Conroe to the restaurant was horried. We met them at Kenny and Ziggy’s, a New York style Jewish Deli. We had a great visit with Barbara and Art and caught up with all the news. They are doing great. The food reminded us a lot of Corky and Lenny’s in Cleveland. The corned beef was very good. We still think Corky and Lenny’s has better latkes and corned beef, but Kenny and Ziggy’s is a close second. So we picked up a couple of pounds of Corned Beef, rye bread and house made sauerkraut. A couple of nights later we had Rueben Night at Cynthia and Felix’s, Everyone enjoyed the treat. Olivia and Avery had a lot of fun and put on a dance show.

9-12 January 2023 Back to Fort Worth

David had to go back to Fort Worth for follow up meetings to the ones in December. Leslie came along to visit her Mom. We stopped at the storage unit on the way into town and dropped off the Christmas Decorations. We had hoped to have dinner with our friends that night, but TCU was in the College Football Final and the whole metroplex was tuned in to watch the game. So, we stopped at Rio Mambo for dinner before heading to the Blackstone Hotel in Downtown. While David went into work, Leslie managed to have Lunch with her Mom on Tuesday. The next day, Leslie’s Birthday, we drove over to Dallas to have dinner with Diane and Donny. We all had an enjoyable time. On Thursday, we met up with the Greenstones for Lunch at Mi Cassina before driving back to Conroe. The Greenstones looked great and are still busy teaching and writing books
