10 March 2024 Boarding Regatta

We packed the few remaining things that were still out and checked out of the Marriott. Luckily there was a taxi that had just dropped off and took us to the White Bay Cruise Terminal. The ship personnel grabbed our luggage and sent us into the terminal to check in. We had arrived 30 minutes ahead of our check in time, but they waived us on through to the check in line. David’s sinuses were still running quite a bit but no coughing or fever. We waited in line for about 30 minutes and went through the check in process. Then it was on to passport control and security. Finally, we walked up the ramp to the ship where we were sent to our marshalling area for emergencies and given another safety briefing before being allowed to explore the ship. We headed for the Waves grill to get a quick lunch before sitting in the poolside lounge chairs (in the shade) while we waited for our cabin to be cleaned. David decided to explore the ship and get some pictures before it got too crowded. He was on the top deck when he brought his hand up quickly to snap a picture on his iPhone. The iPhone slipped out of his hand, went over the rail and landed on the metal deck of a support ship (five decks below) that was along side. It landed within 10 feet of a deck hand who was none to pleased. He yelled at David, but picked up the phone and took it over to where a ships officer was able to retrieve it. David hustled down to the lowest deck he could go to. There, David got to meet the ships safety officer who grilled him on what happened before they handed over his phone. The screen glass is shattered but the phone was still mostly operational. The touch areas near the top are not working but the center and bottom are working. Luckily it landed on the barge and not in the water where it could not be retrieved. After getting in our cabin, we explored our new home for the next 42 days and unpacked. As the day wore on, David felt less and less well. After dinner at the terrace, we went and relaxed in our cabin. David spiked a fever later that night.
