10 June 2023 Hoodoo You Love

With the weather report for next week showing rain, we decided to do as much as we could this weekend. Today we drove up to Bryce Canyon National Park. With Pam’s knee hurting, we decided we would drive the park road and go to the various overlooks and save any hiking into the canyon for another day. The colors and shapes of the Hoodoos are amazing, and the views from the overlooks expansive. Bryce Canyon is the highest step in the Grand Staircase that goes from the top of Bryce Canyon down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, where each step is a different layer of rock from various periods. The rock in Bryce is very soft and crumbly. The Hoodoos were formed from millions of years of erosion from the freezing and thawing process, rain erosion and wind. All the trails start on the rim of the canyon and go down which means you have to climb back up at the end of the trail. The climbs look to be pretty strenuous but doable. First stop was the visitor cent to get our passport stamp, post cards and hat. We watched the park movie and walked through the exhibits. Then we drove over to the Bryce Canyon Lodge and had lunch before heading for the overlooks. It ended up taking most of the day to drive the 18 miles of the park road stopping at each of the overlooks. Then we decided to head over to Panguitch to scope out the town. We ate dinner at the Backroads Bistro (It was relatively good) before stopping at Joes Market for some supplies.
