16 November 2019 Channel Islands NP

We returned to the Channel Islands Visitor Center to explore the exhibits and view the park movie (narrated by Kevin Costner). The islands were privately owned until 1980 when a part of Santa Cruz Island was turned over to the Nature Conservancy and the National Park acquired the rest of the island as well as Santa Rosa, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, and Anaconda islands. Since then they have been restoring the native species (Island Fox and Bald Eagles) and botanicals after over 100 years of ranching on the islands.

Following the visitor center we made our way to downtown Ventura and explored Main Street. We came across Labyrinth Vineyards tasting room and stopped to sample the local wines. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the wine and bought three bottles before heading back to the Wanderer.
