14 November 2019 Acton to Ventura CA

Getting the wanderer out of the RV park took a little finesse due to the close rigs and trees at our site. The drive to Ventura was pretty easy compared to the last few drives. We are staying at the Ventura Beach RV Resort ($97.50 per night, no discount) right off Main Street in Ventura. Pulling into our assigned site was a rough task. There were trees on each corner between the sites and there was a vehicle parked on the side of the road limiting our ability to swing out to pull into the narrow site. Result was that we bumped the top front corner of the Wanderer on a tree branch which damaged the paint and caused some fiberglass damage. Not real bad, but its our home, so any damage hurts. We finally wiggled our way in to the site. The sewer connection was pretty far back, water pressure was good at 42lbs, power was nominal. The WiFi is very weak and extremely slow.

After we got set up, we decided to go over to the Channel Islands National Park visitor center to get a plan for exploring the park. We arrived to find out the visitor center and indoor exhibits were closed for construction, but would open up the next day. After speaking with a park volunteer, we decided we better head over to the boat concessionaire, Island Packers, to arrange for our ride out to the islands. But first we collected our 60th Passport Stamp! When we arrived at Island Packers, we discussed the options for day trips with the folks behind the counter. They only had boats going to Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa inland this time of year. The other three islands were not being serviced due to construction, weather, and to protect rockeries.  There is a storm front coming into area for the weekend and the seas were expected to be rough (10 foot waves) for the outer islands but mild around the anchorage for Santa Cruz Island for the next three days and it’s a shorter boat ride.  After learning there was going to be over a hundred 7thgraders on the 9:30 boat out, we opted for the 8am boat out in the morning and bought our tickets. ($107) We also took the opportunity to get some fresh seafood at a restaurant on the harbor.
