Another one of Leslie’s favorite places around Washington is the small town of Middleburg. The area around Middleburg became major Virginia Horse Country. The town has expanded considerably since Leslie last visited. The Red Fox Inn in town dates back to 1728. In 1748, George Washington stayed in the Tavern/Lodge when doing some surveying on the frontier. The building looks like it is in really good shape for being 300 years old. We ate a late lunch across the street from the Inn. After exploring the shops on main street we decided to visit one of the local vineyards. Over the past 15-20 years, some of the horse farms have been turned into very successful vineyards. We picked the Greenhill Vineyard and stopped in to do a wine tasting. The grounds were beautiful and they had beautiful views of the hills. We were not super impressed with the wines from the tasting. But we picked out a couple and sat out on the porch to enjoy the views while letting the notorious DC rush hour traffic die down.
