13 October 2019 Big Sur

Another one of our goals for this stop was to drive CA1 along the Pacific coast all the way down to Hearst Castle. We got an early start. The drive along the coast headed south from Carmel is beautiful. We made numerous stops for photos along the way. We stopped about of a third of the way down for lunch at Sur House with gorgeous views of the coast. Further down the coast we stopped to see Elephant Seals on the beach. We finally arrived at Hearst Castle around 3:30, just in time to catch the second to last tour of the castle. Opulence does not begin describe the Hearst Castle. With 5000 year old Sphinx statues in the garden, 16thcentury choir seats used as wainscoting, 14thcentury ceilings tiles, 12thcentury fireplace mantels, etc. It is incredible! Following Hearst Castle, we cut across to US101 and booked it back to the Wanderer to get Etta out before she exploded!
