15 July 2023 Only Vineyard in Wyoming

We managed to find our way to the only vineyard in Wyoming. There are a few wineries that import grape juice to make wines, but apparently this is the only place that grows their own grapes in Wyoming. The thought of grapevines surviving a Wyoming winter had never crossed our minds. They have a hearty cross bred grape that can survive temperatures down to -40F. The Mustang Mountain Vineyard is over by Lovell, about an hour away. We ended up staying for five hours talking with the owners and another visitor. The owners had moved up in 2017 from Fort Hood Texas to help her parents who had bought the land and actually started growing the hybrid grapes in the early 2010s. She got her viticulture degree from the Texas Tech. The other visitor was from east Texas. So it was like being back home! The wines were mostly whites, one red made with grapes from Washington state, but all very dry and crisp. As was their hard cider. So, we left with new friends and a half case of a variety of wines. Good fun!
