2 March 2019 Star Gazing

We went exploring Alpine this afternoon. It was fun to be on old territory again. We walked the streets checking out the shops before having a cold beer on the Holland Hotel. In the evening we went up to McDonald Observatory, north of Fort Davis for a star gazing class ($12 per person on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday). It had been partly coudy most of the day and we were worried the couds would close in and block off the telescope viewing. But as the evening wore on, the clouds cleared out. We arrived just before a beautiful sunset and were surprised at how many others were there as well. The class starts out with in an outside ampitheater, after dark, where they gave a lexture on the constellations. Then we went and looked through various telescopes they had set up for us. We viewed the 7 sisters star cluster, the M35 Cluster, M79 Cluster and the Orion Nebula amoung others. It was a lot of fun and we recommend anyone in the area attend one.
