We woke this morning to the Wanderer shuddering and shaking in the wind. Last night when storms rolled through, there was a tornado that touched down about 50 miles north of us. This morning the wind was blowing steadily at 45-55 MPH with gusts between 80 and 85 MPH. The winds were suppose to stay bad all day, which ruled out any outdoor activities. So we decided to go to Roswell, NM to visit the International UFO Museum and Research Center. The wind definitely blew us around on the way to Roswell and we went through several dust storms. What was surprising to us was the number of RVers that choose to brave the wind and head down the road with vicious cross winds. When we got to the UFO Museum, we found out the poweer had failed in all of downtown Roswell due to the wind blowing over a power pole. So we tried going to the Historical Society Museum, then to the vineyard in town (Taste of Pecos) and then to a bar/cafe only to find all were closed (due to the power outage). So, disappointed, we turned around and fought the wind back to our campground. Along the way we came across a semi-truck that had been blown over on its side just a few minutes before we got to that section of road.
