We left the Big Bend country reluctantly behind us and drove to Carlsbad New Mexico (our 14thstate since starting fulltime). We took the most direct route up US67 to US285. What we did not realize was US285 at the Texas/New Mexico boarder was under contruction. It took us over an hour to go 4 miles only to find out it was a stop light causing the backup in the construction zone. Were staying at the Carlsbad KOA ($37 a night) about halfway between Carlsbad and Artesia. The roads and sites are gravel but fairly level. Of course they put us in the one site with a big tree (at least for NM) next to it making getting into the site a bit of a pain (David does not want to spend hours polishing out branch marks again). But its full hook ups with local cable TV hookup. The WiFi was easy to access but was VERY slow. After getting set up we went to Artesia to get our Sunday Mexican food fix (Los Agaves). Our first exposure to Jalisco mexican style food which is from the Guardalajarda region of Mexico. It was fresh and tasty but Leslie could not recommend the Margarita’s.
