We got ourselves backed up early in the morning. David scoped out how we would tackle the ramp out of the park and back up onto the Levee road. We had decided to go out the north side of the Brennan Island road rather than take a chance at dragging the back end again. There is a significant crown at the point where the ramp and road meat and there are several scrap marks where other people had scraped their rigs. Leslie went up to the top of the ramp to watch the clearance and to stop David if it was getting too close. David drove up the middle of the ramp to clear the palm bushes on either side, then cut to the left where the crown was lowest, and then cut right as the truck came up onto the road. We made it over the crown and up onto the road with several inches to spare! We then crawled at 15 MPH over horrible road surfaces until we got back to CA12. We took I-5 south to avoid the city traffic and then headed for the coast on CA152 to CA156. We arrived at the Marina Dunes RV Park ($80 per night with GSC) at 1:30. There was one big climb and descent on CA152, and other than the crazy drivers, was uneventful. Our site is a gravel back in. It took a couple of tries to get the Wanderer lined up properly, but we made it fit (We can’t open the garage due to a nearby tree). This is a much nicer RV park than the last one!!
After unwinding a bit, we changed cloths and headed over to our friends Aprille and Gil, who have a beautiful home in Carmel. Gil and David were room mates when they were both working at General Dynamics. David has not seen them since the 1980s, but we have been keeping in touch through emails and Christmas newsletters over the years. They love to entertain and prepared a gourmet six-course meal with wine pairings for our evening. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! This was their first time to meet Leslie, and we had a great time getting caught up with each other’s lives. It has been way to long. The view of Monterey Bay from their home is spectacular. We will be spending more time with them next week.
