David turned 60 years old this morning. After a slow start, we all got moving and piled into the Behemoth and headed for Napa Valley. Saturday, we stopped in the town of Napa to eat a late lunch at the Bounty Hunter Wine Bar and Smoking BBQ for some excellent BBQ. Next we went to Del Dotto winery but they would not let us in with Olivia. Next stop was Elizabeth Spencer winery and did a tasting that took longer than expected. Final stop was at Grgrich winery, where they not only opened their arms to us having Olivia with, but they also brought her treats! We really enjoyed their wines and walked away with half a case of their 2014 Cabernet for Christmas.
We planned to get an early start on Sunday, but getting everyone through one bathroom took longer than expected. Leslie had a surprise for David at 2:00, so we squeezed in a visit to Silver Oaks winery where we picked up a couple bottles of wine. Then it was on to Sequoia Grove winery, one of David’s favorites. Leslie had arranged for a wine/food pairing tasting for all of us. Unfortunately when we were checking in, we were told we could not bring Olivia. Lauren told us to go on to the tasting and she would take Olivia out to the patio (where they brought her a cheese tray). She is such a giving person. Cynthia, Leslie and David enjoyed the wine/food pairing. David ended up buying a case of their Cabernet Franc, which was just incredible! After Laurens sacrifice, we let her pick the next winery. She picked Hess winery, which is a little bit higher in the mountains. It is a really neat winery and the wines were quite good. Then it was the long drive back to the Wanderer. After we arrived at the Wanderer, Cynthia presented David with their Birthday gift of a 1.5 liter Sequoia Grove Cabernet! Best Birthday ever!!!
