9 June 2019 Hiking with family
After a wonderful breakfast at Nora’s Fish Creek Inn, we picked up Leslie’s sister and Brother in law at Teton Village and headed into Grand Teton NP. We stopped at the Rockefeller Wild Life Preserve and decided to hike to Phelps Lake Trail. After making it to Phelps Lake, we decided to extend the hike with a side trail. We were almost finished when we came across a mother Moose and her “Baby” about 50 feet off the trail. We stopped to assess the situation (and take some pictures) since mother Moose can be very aggressive and weighing in at 1100 pounds, they can really hurt you. Mama Moose positioned herself between us and her Baby and she was clearly agitated. So we stayed on the trail and slowly worked our way past her and she relaxed as we moved away. That was one big Moose! As we walked back to the truck, we were really glad we had made the detour (4.5 miles, 394 feet of elevation gain, 1,175 calories). We took Cynthia and Felix back to their hotel since they had a business dinner in the evening. We went over to the Mangy Moose in Teton village for a couple of beers and a burger. Cynthia and Felix stopped in for a drink before they headed out to their dinner and later stopped by the Wanderer after the dinner for a glass of wine. They headed back to Houston in the morning.
